Workplace Health Promotion

More than a third of the Welsh population are employed. They spend more than a third of their waking hours at work. Therefore the workplace is an ideal place for health promotion. In Wales 10.5 million days are lost through sickness absence, costing the Wales economy £0.5 billion.

Health promotion in the workplace takes several approaches:

"" Commitment to a healthier workforce by providing information on health promotion
"" Implementation of policies and practices which assist employees to make healthier choices
"" Recognition of the impact that organisations can have on individuals

There are many organisational benefits to be gained from effective health promotion in the workplace. These include:

"" Increased productivity
"" Reduced absenteeism
"" Better recruitment and lower employee turnover
"" Lower levels of occupational stress
"" Improved work environment
